Path studies
Path studies are predetermined study modules that are a part of Humak’s degrees. Completing path studies gives students application eligibility to the degree studies in question. Path studies include both Bachelor’s and Master’s level studies. On this page, you can find detailed descriptions of different path study options offered by Humak.
Path studies lead to degree studies
Path studies are a predetermined set of study modules that are a part of Humak’s first year degree studies and give students application eligibility to the degree studies in question. Path studies will be accepted in full if you are later selected as a Humak degree student in a separate or joint application.
Humak Open UAS offers two Bachelor’s degree path studies in the academic year 2026–2027:
Community Educator (Bachelor’s Degree), Adventure and Outdoor Education
Community Educator (Bachelor’s Degree), Adventure and Outdoor Education path studies consist of 60 ECTS credits of degree programme courses. For more information about the degree programme, visit our website.
As a bachelor-level path student your goal is to complete 60 credits during one academic year. This means you have to commit to your studies full-time. Open UAS path students study in the same group with our first year degree students. Please note that as an open UAS student you can’t apply for KELA’s study grant. Only higher education degree students can get KELA’s study grant. Therefore, before registering for path studies, you should consider if studying full-time is financially possible for you. If you are planning path studies while you are unemployed, always contact your employment services first before registering for the studies. NB! Humak’s Open UAS studies are only available for students who have Finnish personal identity code.
Daytime studies include contact teaching days at the Helsinki campus on average 3–4 days per week. Days at campus usually start at 9.00 and end at 16.00. During your path studies, you can expect that approximately 1/2 of the time will be spent on classes/activities/practicing skills and 1/2 of the time will be spent on projects/independent studies/group assignments. There will be no contact teaching in December 2026 and January 2027. Courses Experiential learning and Outdoor Skills in Adventure Education 1 include a 4-day canoe expedition in May and June 2027.
The study right for path studies is three semesters (1.5 years). The study right starts on 1 September 2026. The study right expires on 31 December 2027. Please note that some of the courses are only offered once in the academic year.
Bachelor of Humanities, Adventure and Outdoor Education path studies consist of 60 ECTS credits of degree programme courses:
- KATO2B Basics of career planning, 2 ECTS
- KATO1 Study skills and digital competencies, 5 ECTS
- KAVU2 Professional literacy skills, 5 ECTS
- YPKI3 Finnish language 1, 5 ECTS
- YPTY1 Community educators’ professional competencies, 10 ECTS
- YPPE1 Collaborative pedagogy, 5 ECTS
- YPPE2 Instruction and activity-based methods, 5 ECTS
- YPPE3 Strengthening social engagement and agency in society, 5 ECTS
- KAVU1 Communication, 5 ECTS
- ADME11 Outdoor skills in adventure education 1, 5 ECTS
- ADPE1 Experiential learning 5 ECTS
- VAPTU5 Multimodal Interaction in professional contexts, 3 ECTS

Separate application via Humak Open UAS path studies
After completing your Humak path studies (60 ECTS), you can apply for a degree programme through the separate application via the Open UAS Studies. The application periods are twice a year: 1–15 May in spring and 1–15 November in autumn. Applications are submitted through Studyinfo.fi.
A degree study place is granted to all applicants who have completed the path studies within four consecutive semesters preceding the application and who are applying for a degree programme equivalent to their UAS path studies. The path studies are fully credited if you are admitted as a degree student at Humak.
